Regarding the ivy coach in question for this swimmer, if he has seen the swimmer’s transcripts and test scores, & has therefore seen they are below average for the typical student at this school, he must think he can get this athlete through admissions regardless, right? Otherwise, why would he be talking about saving an official visit slot, etc.?

that’s the way it is “suppose” to work but in my son’s case it just seems like the coach is “hoping to get him in” but not saying he CAN get him in…i’m sure admissions has the final say in everything i just wonder how many athletes with my sons credentials HAVE been brought in to the team!

i appreciate everyone’s response. we dont get any help from our high school or club coach with recruiting so this is all new to me.

I just recently talked to a parent who’s student has signed --the student is swimmer…

The student was followed heavily by some coaches and the spring of Jr yr the recruiting coaches asked for some transcript info…but the student didn’t need to provide alot of academic stuff/testing–because the swimmer is THAT good (potential Olympic material)

when most jrs were just gearing up-last yr
—this swimmer had already verbaled a commitment…

some paperwork was done this summer/eary fall and the student got nearly a full ride…truly–
the mom told me the story

OTOH
our student is not a swimmer–and not in a money sport–
a couple of coaches have asked for Jr yr transcripts through recent exams and an SAT asap…for pre-reads…
don’t know if our student will be in the pool of possibles–as we haven’t gotten that far into the process…

I think the process varies from sport to sport a bit and certainly from conference to conference because of the NCAA guidelines
