Hi,
My son took the SAT Is in May, and his scores are disappointing compared to the ones he got on a diagnostic test after taking a prep class. The real scores are 190 points below those on diagnostic; except for writing, which stayed the same, the math and CR plummeted. The diagnostic had the same conditions as the real SAT except it was given in the afternoon, not first thing in the morning.

Has anyone else had this experience? I'm wondering if he can bring his scores up to the level of the diagnostic by taking the test again, or will it only go up a little bit?

He's had mostly As as a junior, in honors and AP classes, but he had more Bs (And one C+) his first two years, so his GPA isn't at the top of his class. He's a serious student and a good writer. I feel as if we'll have to look for schools that view applicants "holistically," rather than by scores if his SATs don't approve on retesting. Any advice on such schools (in or near urban areas)?

thanks!
