NO , dont bother, work on essays-thats the most importan factor now

How are your english/humanities grades? The fact that you got a 730 on verbal may lead Columbia to view your writing score is an anomaly.

Oh. I am an international student from Singapore. I don't do the humanities, only sciences in the british A levels. My english grades aren't so good, hovering around B to a low A.

I have put off applying to any of the top schs because of my poor writing grade. So far, I have only applied to MIT because they don't consider writing.

Don't be too put off. Since it's the first year for writing scores, I'm willing to bet there's a little leniency at most colleges especially if you've got other grades to make up for it.

even at the tops ivies? :o
I think it's more competitive for foreigners?

Okay. Now I've got my full SAT I and II scores.

SAT 1: 780M, 730CR, 600W
SAT 2:
Math IIC: 800
BiologyM: 800
Chem : 800

Should I be retaking my SAT 1 or do i stand a fighting chance.

columbia presenter at my school said that they'll look at the writting score, but mainly finding out how to use it rather than judging people by it. and they'll read a few essays to see the essay gradings so writting is not much of an important section this year. I think you are fine with the score you have now

Soonalvin, which JC are you in?
And tidal822, your scores are quite good but we can't tell from your scores alone whether you'll get in. Do you really think the 790 on your schoolmate's resume cost him the admission? They consider many other facets of your school life and rather importantly, your personality, and even then there is always going to be the element of luck in the process.

Hwachong. .

A 2110 is decent enough for Ivy League. It seems pretty good to me. I wouldn't retake it unless you wanted. Combined with your perfect SAT II scores, you'll be fine.
