For the Ivies and Stanford is there a specific SAT score you have to be above for them to even consider you?

not really, but unless you are a URM or recruited athlete- 2100

if you are a URM- 2000 is good but 1900 they will still look at you

How do Ivies this year look at the writing score

i think most are looking at it but not considering it as much

notre dame, MIT, and penn state I know arent looking at it at all

Yes, there sure is a lot of mystery around writing scores. College Board website has been stating for months that they would post info re per centiles on writing scores in early November. So far, they have not even bothererd to retract their post about "early November."

I have a 2150... and I'm an URM (Love that acronym), but admittance isn't assured for me either.

Hopefully you have a lot of extra-curriculars, something I don't, and a nice GPA to back your scores.

2150 for a URM makes you extremely competitive everywhere, assuming the rest of your app is decent

What does "URM" mean?

Under represented minority

It's... decent, not spectacular. I have a 3.4 GPA (Because of my current 4.0... I made some pretty bad mistakes my junior year)... I took one AP last year (Biology - 4). This year, I'm taking 6. I'm taking 5 right now (A's and A-'s, one C that will be, hopefully, a B-).

Weak extracurriculars... I have been involved with a science bowl type thing throughout high school (Went to a few national competitions, no titles)... I joined a few clubs my junior year (IAMSH Texas Hold'Em champion... and it was a 60 person tourney)... And I joined Newspaper this year. Might join track in the spring, but not for apps, obviously.

So, I'm hopeful (Applied to some top schools), but I have to be realistic alongside everyone else. No worries though, no matter where I do or don't get accepted. After college, I'm going to law school, and I am going into college prepared to ready a stellar application (Here I come, Stanford).

Not trying to be mean or anything but with a 3.4 your chances of getting into an ivy or Stanford are Extremely low. Decent gpa to an ivy league school or stanford is like a 3.8 and above, plus some AP classes. Also weak ECs don't help your case at all. If I was you I would look towards schools like University of Chicago, Boston College, and NYU.(assuming you would be a URM at those schools.)

No offense taken. I'd be a URM anywhere but Howard (Guess!). I know my GPA is putting me at a serious disadvantage, but at this point I'm not really going to be dissuaded from applying. The Ivy apps aren't the only ones I'm sending out, of course, but I'm sending those too. Worst case scenario... I spend a little more money than I needed to.

you wouldnt be a URM at any other MEAC or SWAC schools either

Need your opinion:

Does it make a difference if you are a newcomer to U.S.?

I came here 2.5 years ago, an ORM, go to an underperforming high school. Will I stand a chance at Ivies and Stanford if I try to push my Dec SAT score to 2050? I have decent SAT II's.

Thanks for any input.
