SAT scores

I got a 172 on the PSAT without prep. Would it even be reasonable for me to be able to get over a 2000 with preparation?

It really depends on a number of factors. One, what were your individual section scores on your PSAT? Did you score really well on CR and Math but mess up your essay? If so, then maybe you could do really well the next time with a different prompt.

However, if the reason why you scored a 172 is not because of some random reason, then I would advise you to seriously consider studying. Even if you were to just take practice tests and review the problems you answered incorrectly, that would be preferable to not studying at all. It’s an important test, so it’s in your best interest to go ahead and study.

^The PSAT doesn’t have an essay portion.

Anyway, I definitely think that it’s POSSIBLE for you to get 2000, since the curve is generally harsher on the PSAT. With studying, I can see you reaching your target score. Look through the PSAT questions/answers to see what you did wrong and what your weakest areas are, and focus on those areas.
