i took the sat back in 9th and 10th grade as a part of this talent search thing for practice for the real thing. but now i'm wondering that since it shows up on the score report, will colleges actually consider it as the real thing? they were the old sats and i didn't really take them that seriously, but now i don't want it to count against me.

ppl say that colleges only look at your highest scores for each section. But I'm not in college admissions so I don't know for sure.

buuuuuuump

Like bjc said, most colleges will only consider your highest score in each section. Some (like the UC's) will only consider your highest single sitting score.

chillaxin, while schools will see your old SAT scores, they won't pay attention to them as long as your new SAT scores are better. They really do look at your highest scores. So I wouldn't sweat the old scores at all.

Have you taken the new SAT yet, and if so, how'd you do?

i haven't taken the new sat yet (planning to this fall) but i heard that if you take the sat multiple times, colleges don't take the highest scores that seriously. is that true, even if i took the old sats as an underclassman for practice?

No, that's not true. First, it' sin the school's best interest to look at your highest scores...those are the ones they're going to report when they release admissions stats, and it would be pretty unethical for them to report one set of scores and consider another. They really do look at your highest. Almost everyone takes the SAT 2 or 3 times these days, and 4 times is not at all uncommon. Beyond 4 times in Junior and Senior years might seem excessive. Anything before that they'll likely ignore.

I'm sure they are familiar with talent searches like that, so when they see that those scores are from a number of years ago, they'll probably recognize it as such.
