SAT scores

I received a 1860 on my first SAT and 2150 on my second try (also, 30 and 31 on ACT). McGill requires you to send in all scores, so I had to send in the 1860 along with the 2150. Being a bit concerned as 1860 is below the "minimum requirements" for SAT scores, I emailed McGill. Here is the response:

You are required to send all your test scores. We do not worry if one is high and one is low, as long as they meet our minimum requirements as outlined at Applicants from U.S. High School Programs (in the U.S.A. and other countries) and Admissions standards for previous years.

If you write your tests more than once we will consider the test scores from any one individual sitting that bests supports your application.

Kind Regards

Can anyone help me interpret this? They say that they will consider the best test score, but also that "they" need to meet the minimum requirements. You would think that they wouldn't really penalize you for one bad test score, as long as the others are good. I haven't visited McGill for a information session but I've heard it repeated by many American schools that they understand if you have one bad day, so to speak.

Thank you very much!

I interpret that to mean that they’ll only consider your best test score and that this best score must meet the minimum, which makes logical sense.
Also, according to the first link you posted, the lower end of the requirement range is 1800 (or 1840 for engineering), so, unless my math is wrong, even your lowest score appears to meet this minimum.

Well, my critical reading on that first test was 570 (minimum is 620). But yeah, I was just rather confused by the wording they used. Thanks for the reply.
