SAT Scores

Just got my scores, and I thought I could do better so that I would have a better chance of getting into Pomona College.
I didn't do much better :(
690 reading (+30)
650 math (-10)
610 writing (+60)
In my mind I just blew any small small chance I would have at getting into Pomona, is this true? I mean, I didn't even hit the 25th percentile. I'm thinking that no matter what else I do or have in my application, they're gonna laugh at my scores, crumple up my application and shoot it into the garbage.

AMIRITE?

I’m thinking you didn’t pay Pomona the application fee to have your application mocked, laughed at and crumpled. While it’s true your SATs are lower than the 25th percentile, you’re not entirely out of the runnings. SAT scores are big factors, but only one in many, many other important factors. As long as you have a good GPA and something that stands out about your ECs, essays or personal situations, you still have a chance.

Post your other stats including ECs and I’ll see how much of a shot you have.

I’m submitting a fee-waiver haha

Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference Alumni
Knowledge Bowl, Varisty for three years
Camp Chaperone this year for a Middle School field trip

GPA: 3.97 UW. We don’t have weighted, and only have one AP class that I wasn’t able to fit into my schedule. My school only has about 250 students so we don’t have many options for ECs and classes.

1 year of Yoga
.5 of Web Design, Physiology, Leadership and Computers (No class, just credit)

Mother didn’t graduate from college, Father has a bachelors degree. They’re divorced and my mom has re-married but now they’re getting an “unofficial” separation. I’m now living on my own, independent except for financially. I’m living on my own because my mom wants me to graduate from the school i’m at now but she wants to move, and because she has some problems that have caused kind of a crazy home life. She is unemployed and my step-dad is disabled.

I had an interview and a tour when I visited family this last summer and i’ll be applying under EDII. Oh and my Letters of Recommendation are freaking amazing, except one teacher put that I kind of doubt myself and my worth or abilities I guess.

Sorry this is kind of all over the place, i’m rushing!

Well, the unfortunate fact is that with any key stat below the 25th percentile, it will be a big uphill battle. Based on that, it’s important to fall in love with other schools too.

That said, stranger things have happened than a kid scoring below the 25th percentile getting in. With a 3.97 I’m guessing you’re valedictorian or close. That will help.

My class size is about 50 or 60, and before I lost my 4.0 I was tied with four other girls for “Valedictorian” so even though I have a 3.97 I don’t think i’m even in the top ten percent anymore.

I got a 29 in math, 30 in reading/verbal/whatever and my composite is 29 on the ACT. ■■■
