On my last SAT, I was never given scratch paper for my math portion of the exam. Are we allowed to ask for scratch paper, or is this not allowed?

Thank You :)

Not allowed (you can’t bring any and none will be provided).

Why not? Why can we not get scratch paper???

SAT is pretty strict and tries to avoid any slight possibility of cheating. If you bring your own scrap you could easily write some formulas on it etc. and if the proctor is lax/negligent you could get away with it. The same reason I would think apply to being provided with it. The scrap paper a proctor provides could easily get mixed in with the paper you may bring if you want to write formulas etc. The whole notion of scrap paper probably makes it much simpler to violate CB rules by writing information down not just limited to math but even grammar rules, essay strategies etc. Banning scrap paper significantly reduces the very possible chance someone may cheat. It is one of the way CB can cut back on the number of immoral students. Besides all the math can be done within the book with enough practice. If you really need scrap paper you are prob approaching the problem the wrong way. Like for example if a question asked you how many 3 digit numbers have an odd digit in the hundreds place, an even digit in ten’s place and an even digit in the one’s place (can repeat digits). Well one way to use up a lot of paper would be to write all numbers you could think of, but rather you could just multiply knowing the laws of probability and combination: i think 555 instead of trying to write them all out which would take forever.

^Haha thank you very much! That helped a lot. Wow…I never realized people would be that lame to cheat on the SAT -_-" I mean…I just need scratch paper because I write big, and draw big diagrams… sigh

Well thanks anyway! As a matter of fact, that’s one of the problems I was having trouble with haha :)
