Sooo the next SAT test is coming up soon. What are some good foods to bring as snacks?

I plan to bring a sandwhich, banana (or at least some kind of fruit), and water, though a lot of people are saying that I should bring some candy, like starburst or a snickers bar. But wouldn't that make me just completely crash in the end?

IDEAS, PLEASE!! =)

Oh, and by the way, does anyone know when we get breaks during the test? Thanks!!

Candy and/or Starbucks are very good suggestions. You need to get candy because they offer carbohydrates that are easy to dissolve and they offer energy instantly. They are ideal for exams where you need energy to keep you going. And regarding Starbucks, need I point out the obvious? CAFFEINE!

I am actually afraid to take caffeine. You think it'll hinder you in anyway (other than a mega need to go pee)?? I've never taken energy drinks in my life so i really dunno.

I believe you can chew gum. And yes you can go to the bathroom during breaks. That's one of the reasons they have breaks.

As for food... I actually didn't bring anything to eat while I was taking my SATs (I'm a senior now). The first time I took it, the procter I had made everyone throw out all their food as soon as they entered the room (that's not supposed to happen, apparently), so I just made do with being hungry. It's not so bad really (4 hours in the morning without eating won't kill you) and I did fine on the test. Just be sure to have breakfast beforehand and you'll be fine :-)

Have a good breakfast with a blend of carbs AND protein. No foods high in fat as it will bog your mind down. Depending on how quickly you metabolize caffeine you can try a Monster/Red Bull. Try it for a practice test to get the release first 'cause the worst thing would be to crash during a section. If no caffeine during the test, try a banana or two and some trail mix. Try to avoid salty foods too... I was literally dying during the last section in March...

Caffeine? You really don't need it. It's the freaking SAT, for once go to bed early the night before-- your homework can wait!! Besides, if you're anything like me, you'll be too hyped up to worry about being sleepy. Honestly, who would fall asleep during the SAT?

That being said, I took a Luna bar and a cereal bar, and that worked for me.

And what if it makes you so hyper you can't concentrate?

I think it would not be a good idea to have a high-caffeine drink or something before the SAT if you're not used to it-- i.e. don't pop caffeine pills for the first time that morning.

Definitely have a perfect breakfast that will keep you satisfied, yet not bloated.

Have a banana (can be digested quickly and easily) or two, a few minutes before the test.

I'm not sure if there is a real break during the test, but if there is one of those 5 minute ones like they have in the practice tests, eat chocolate (preferably Hershey's). Don't eat fruit candies or candies with caramel. Eat a bar or half of Hershey's chocolate.

You want food that won't stick to your teeth or have a long after taste.

The candy is to keep you going throughout the remainder of the test. You will be burnt out (tired) after a few hours of testing. Candy is what can make or break your efficiency in the time remaining. However, the rush won't last for four hours so I suggest you don't eat it before you start the test.

If you are going to drink caffeine, it's good to do a few eye/reading exercises soon after. Drink your coffee five minutes before the test, take out a small novel and start speed reading and then carefully analyzing the first few pages, put the book away, try to remember some vocab or math concepts, roll your eyes a few times, and then get started. That always keeps me focused before any test, standardized or not.

Hershey's is simple candy. It's mainly comprised of chocolate. You can even get dark chocolate Hershey's if you want.

There are plenty of other candies that are the same. So get a candy bar that's similar to Hershey's, dark chocolate or milk chocolate. No almonds or nuts though.

Also, it doesn't stick in your teeth... at least not for me.
