I am a rising senior and I will be taking the SAT next October. I got a 1960 (650 CR, 710 MR, 600 WS, 6 Essay) the first time I took the test. Any suggestions on how I should prepare over the next two months? I want to get my score up to a 2250, which will be tough, but I am hopeful that I can do it. I am studying tactics from the Barron’s, PR and Collegeboard blue book. I also have the Gruber’s complete guide. Would you suggest that I go through the math portions of Gruber’s?
I am also learning wordlists and roots of words. Do these really help? Any advice on writing the essay will also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Roots of words are very important, at least to me. I score 17 or 18 out of 19 on the sentence completion portion and I atrribute this to roots, prefixes, suffixes and hot pros., high freq word lists - all from Barron’s. I’m working with direct hits for a 19/19.
I scored 600 by the way on the CR. (yeah, passage and speed issues…) so if you have any tips for a 650, please do share! ^.^
I got an 8 on the essay. What grade are you aiming for on the essay?
I scored the same on the math section, and I advise you to solve a lot and learn from your mistakes. You also should learn the topics you didn’t cover at school yet. These two will result in an 800 on the math, hopefully.
