I am planning on taking the SAT soon. I have no problem in getting a 700-800 in the math section of the SAT. What troubles me is the reading and writing section. The last time I took the SAT I got a 650 in reading and a 660 in writing. I want to get into Stanford so I know that's not enough. Can anyone give me any study tips for the reading and writing section?

Practice tests!

Buy a book of 10+ practice tests and just do all the reading/writing.

Honestly, studying only vocab is a waste of time for reading.

But should you still study vocab for the reading section?

You should do that ONLY after you have mastered the reading comprehension section, IMO. Most times you can use process of elimination to get the vocabulary questions, but the reading passages are what kill most people.

^^ Yeah you should still study vocabulary, but you need to familiarize yourself with reading long passages and reading questions. My highest score is in math and I usually only get about 3 sentence completion questions wrong in the entire test. However, the critical reading questions just get to me.

Yeah, I have been doing practice tests and on the reading comprehension section, a lot of the answers are a little bit confusing. I know what the answer should be but when I look at the answers they just confuse me.

thanks guys that helped a lot
