I am going to be a junior next year and I'm not sure how to prepare for the SAT. I aim to go to a UC school, probably UC Santa Barbara.
My original idea was to buy the Princeton review SAT book and read/practice from that on my own. I'm planning on taking the PSAT in October this year also to get an idea of where I'm at before I even start to study. Also, I'm not sure whether or not I should do a subject test...I know that it isn't required, but does it really look that good on transcripts? To people who have experience with the SAT, do you think my plan is a good plan?
Also, which book do you recommend?

One can never go wrong with “the official SAT study guide” released by collegeboard
HIGHLY recommend for practice

Check out Essential 500 for a great selection of vocab and some example problems to boot! It helped me tremendously on the May SAT

I second acbyrne’s choice. I Essential got me a 770 on CR
