My dream school is Cornell University- and I really, really, want to get accepted there. The problem is- I have 4 sat subject tests, (took 1, bombed it and planning to take 3 more later on) and I do not desire to send the subject test score that I bombed… I got 510 for World History… haha… (I thought all colleges accepted score choice, so I just took it for experience… and made a stupid decision not to cancel it…)
However, I learned that Cornell does not accept score choice and that I have sent that horrible score as well! Let’s say that I get 800, perfect scores on the next 3 subject tests… but 510 for one… Do you think that will cause me to get rejected? I’m extremely worried… since Cornell has always been my dream school.
No, it will not. Of course there’s no guarantee you’ll get in, but 1 low score amongst 3 other excellent scores would not be a problem (unless it’s in your area of study and you didn’t retake it). They consider your highest scores.
So lets say i need 1 history subject test… although i have 510 for world history if i have a 800 for US history, will i be fine?
I’m not sure I can answer that. Does this mean you plan on majoring in history? (I haven’t seen a requirement for a history subject test before). I would think that one 510 won’t ruin things for you if all else is good. It would probably just look like you are human and had a bad day.
Just move forward and do the best you can…one blip in the screen shouldn’t rule you out.
thank you so much! that cheered me on a lot!
You should contact Cornell to ask about their rules regarding submission of subject tests. Some colleges like Cornell require all testing of SAT but they don’t include subject testing or AP testing in that requirement. They mean all regular SAT and all ACT tests. This is very different per school and since Cornell doesn’t specifically state that all subject tests must be submitted you may have the option not to submit.
If they do require every subject test you took I would send them all and I also don’t think a low score on one of them will hurt you. Which school at Cornell are you applying to? Some of Cornell’s schools don’t even require subject tests.
Good luck getting in - Cornell is a very difficult school to get into. If it’s your top choice I would make sure to apply early decision. It’s a great way to let them know it is your top choice and that if they say yes you will go there.
@bksmoms Thanks for explaining. I have the same question as the OP. It seems like the colleges who say they don’t participate in Score Choice, mention that although you have to submit all scores, they look only at your highest sections. That seems to imply they are talking only about the SAT, not the SAT subject tests. I am hoping that subject tests are not included in the Score Choice policy. It’s very confusing. No one wants to have to submit low scores, especially for subject tests which are usually only taken once and aren’t part of superscoring.
