*SAT Subject Test Biology E/M June 2016 Discussion Thread*

whew lads. thanks for all the info!

I got a 790 on Bio M and right after taking the test I know I had gotten at least two wrong. I guess 790 is a good score. Do colleges take SAT II scores into account to a good degree if its relevant to your major?

And only if the AP Bio Exam this year was like the SAT II Exam…relevant. sigh

Most colleges do not admit by major, so no. And 790 is a great score.

anything above 750 or above is pretty much same for colleges. No college looks for perfect student

To everyone who got an 800: What is you’re best advice? Also, how many practice tests did you take before the test and ho did you do on them?

@yellowhello My son took the AP Bio test in May and I think that ensured he covered the general concepts, but he indicated that they are different tests, the SAT Subject test requiring more memorization than the AP. Thus, he studied differently for the tests. For the SAT Subject, he used Barron’s as his primary source, looking to Khan and other videos to understand concepts better when needed. The took the Barron’s practice tests in the back and scored 720 and 740. He used PR only for the practice tests in the back and scored 750 and 770. What really helped was using the tests to confirm what he needed to cover more. Good luck…it’s totally doable!

@yellowhello My best advice would be to take the practice test included in the college board’s huge SAT Subject test book, I only took that one practice test because it is the only one you can access that is extremely similar to the real subject test. I got a 740 on the practice test so I was extremely shocked to see that I got an 800 on the real one!
Taking AP Bio definitely helps because you are familiar with the concepts, however the material is very different. There’s no extensive sexual reproduction taught in AP Bio curriculum, or even plants! You need to know exact concrete material for the subject test, whereas the AP test is about interpreting scenarios and experiments. To brush up on the little things that AP Bio doesn’t go over, I used the Princeton Review’s SAT Bio book about 2 weeks before the test and it was fantastic, lots of diagrams and quick reviews that really had only the information you need for the test. If I hadn’t used that book, I don’t think I could have gotten above a 700.
Good luck and happy studying!!

If I haven’t taken AP Bio, how long do you think I would need to study? Anyone? Would like a month and a half be sufficient?

If you have some bio background from Honors or just regular biology, 1 month should be fine with going over concepts and some practice tests

so how did yall do

@yellowhello I probably took about 5 practice tests total, mostly from Barrons and a couple online. I also took the one from the official college board book. I would score anywhere from 650 to 750 on the practice tests but the one from the college board book was obviously the most accurate to the actual test.

Got 720, im an international student,I learned the material just from the books for last 2 months. What do you guys think? enough for IVY’s? I am pursuing a biology related career eventually.

I know this is really late but I got a 790 on M. How many do you think that means I got wrong?
