Hey everyone! I just wanted to ask if anyone has taken the French without listening test and what they thought about it. Is there a big curve on it? Did you take it and receive an unexpected score? Did you have to study a lot? Any input would be welcome. If you could include what level French courses you have taken, that would be just spiffy as well. I need to decide whether or not I want to take it. Thanks!

I took French w/ Listening, but I used normal French practice exams when I was studying, since the reading sections on the two exams are identical. The curve is one of the most generous curves. I'm Canadian, and they have a program in schools here called French Immersion, where they teach English kids to speak French, since French is one of the two official languages. I was in French Immersion up to grade 6. This is when I went to a French Language school. I tried to study some of the grammar rules, but I found that they were completely unnecessary, because I could make grammatically correct sentences without consciously thinking of any grammar rules. However, I still found maybe two or three rules to be useful.

I.. thought I was good at French.
French SAT II proved me wrong.

Basically, I didn't study at all and went in thinking that my 5 years (6th grade through 11th grade.. middle school years were a joke though, so they probably shouldn't count) throughout my school career would be enough. Yeah..

well, I ended up with a 700. Thought I bombed it. Though, I think a 700 is still bombing it. It was like 70th %tile.

So, I shall be taking it again in November! 760+, here I come! Hopefully..

Oh yeah, I'd recommend cramming/learning vocabulary. That's pretty much the thing that killed me.
