Hi,

Just a quick question..

If my child takes one in the 9th grade year and likes the result, can he submit it when he applies to colleges after 4 years??

The result wil be submitted regardless because College Board sends all test scores from all sittings in a cumulative record UNLESS you use Score Choice.

Well I guess it would depend on the school. Most schools will only take ACT/SAT during your junior and senior year. But to be honest I don’t know if it is any different for the SAT II. I would assume so, but look on the websites of schools you’re looking at. I would not recommend your child to take any standardized testing in his/her freshman year of high school. Maybe a PLAN test or practice PSAT sophomore year but nothing freshman year. Good Luck.

Unless your child is some kind of prodigy it would make no sense. How would he have any exposure to the material that is on the SAT subject tests besides self studying? In my opinion, it is best for students to take these tests in their junior or senior years of high school.

Actually, most schools will take any scores from your high school years, not just junior/senior year. You might want to check potential schools if they have any restrictions though.

My daughter took honors bio in 9th grade and the teacher encouraged them to take the subject test. Most of them did, and they will also take the SAT 2 chem in the spring as sophomores. It’s totally unnecessary, but my daughter wanted to take it so she did. I have to assume that the colleges accept the score since the teachers encouraged it. I did not push the issue.
