SAT Subject Test January 2009: US History

how bout this one: which ultimately(something like that) helped the US gain independance.... two choices were G.Washington's naval power or the French's financial and military aid... i picked the latter

French aid

French assistance, mos def. Saratoga convinced them to help us. What about the one where you had to match the book with the correct author? I put Washington with the Farewell Address. Any thoughts?

@hilligan, it was definitely 13th amendment. cus yeah emanc proc was only states in rebellion. for the eisenhower foreign policy i left it blank. and i still dont know the answer. cus i know he advocated collective security. and unilateralism was his too... so i was just like.. ummmm. the book one was wash/farewell address. i thought it was weird cus every single pres has a farewell address... but the others were wrong so.....

there was a question on what progressive ppl aiming to get rid of trusts did NOT care about. i put the city slums to rural one? cus it was progressive but it wasnt business/trust related..... right????

and there was a question about which one didnt belong... and the answer was betty friedan right? i think it was an era question and she clearly was later? but still not sure.

@xiaohyolee For the progressive question I put the same as you. I was a little unsure, but I thought that progressivists were primarily focused on trusts, political machines etc.

I'm pretty sure I left the question where the person didn't belong blank.

What about the question towards the beginning where is asked what the primary message of the poster, and it was of the Oregon territory? It was between annexation of the territory or to attract settlers for me. I ended up choosing attracting settlers. Any thoughts?

I put attracting settlers, too.

yeah i put attracting settlers. im relatively sure of that cus it was about how good the land was... and no political things on it... so yeah.

what was that question with the data chart about the city populations in diff cities? a bunch of those cities i had no idea which state they were in so i was like umm for the answer choices cus like 3 of them were more growth in southern cities or western ones... i put A, that most cities grew.... i think its right but i didnt know for sure the other answers were wrong so...

and then the chart one for mass, virginia, and two other states. asking about rural and urban growth? i ended up eliminating every answer... and then put... i forgot something bout either rural or urban growth was faster

All I remember about any map question is that one of them had kind of mini pie charts representing race population. I chose the answer that was something like: "There was a larger black to white population in slave sates". Seemed easy enough. The Woodrow Wilson one was pretty easy too, wasn't it? Something about progressive reform.

The question on the Tennessee Valley Authority had something to do with supplying energy, right?

The question on the Tennessee Valley Authority had something to do with supplying energy, right?

@hilligan, yeah i remember that map question. i put the same.
i was talking bout chart questions. guess they werent that hard so you didnt remember them... i think i mightve been overanalyzing

wait what was woodrow wilson one?? dont remember it....

there was on 14 points i think. and there was one question, i totally dont remember what it was on, that was like i, ii, iii, iv and asked which combo was right.... dont know if you remember

oh yeahh the answer to that question was tva.

@xiaohyolee Oh, now I remember the one on that had the four or five bullets and it asked what they were from or something. I'm pretty sure it was Fourteen Points. It had stuff like freedom of the seas, limitation of arms etc.

I remember the multiple answer question you're referring to. I just can't remember what it was about. Haha I think I just did a kind of process of elimination thing on that one.

Now I remember a graph question that had something to do with immigration maybe? With a question like which statement does the graph prove? Eh, I'm not good at remembering graphs.

What do you think the curve is gonna be like?

I think I put II and V for the combo, but I was almost entirely guessing.

haha i think it was on a war..... the multiple answer question. but i cant for the life of me remember what it was about........ this is really annoying me haha

oh yeah the immigration one.... that was the one with lots of cities...

idk... i heard curves for nov/dec/jan tests are usually nice but you never know.
id say 9 questions missed still 800...

Im thinking about taking this is May. Before the AP test, what is the curve for these? For like a 800, or something.

The curve is harsher in may... the question about the immigration asked "which of the following is not true?"... i put "fluctuations in south asian and south american immigrants".... because the line was straight?

Yeah- me too; there's no way it could have been any of the other ones... what about the question of progressive area women reformers??? which woman did you guys pick as the one that didn't belong???

@lobzz, yeah i put the same thing.
dyo remember any of the other data charts? like the state urban/rural growth? and immigration in 10 diff cities?

@sheila123, that was definitely betty friedan. she was the only one who was out of progresive time era (she was what was known as "second women's suffrage movement" which happened after 1950s.

xiaohyolee, are you sure???... theres this other woman who had absolutely nothing to do with women's suffrage, haha i got it wrong anyway... I ommited 5-10 questions and i think i'll get 10-17 wrong.... think i'll break 700+?

Come on people!.... lets bump this

I remember I only omitted four. I hope my guesses were right. Haha I would assume the curve would be much more generous for the January test because most people, like me, have only had a semester of U.S. History. Good thing my AP teacher is boss!! Haha

@Lobzz Regarding the immigration graph, I answered the same as you. None of the other choices made sense and the Asian line had no fluctuations whatsoever.

What about the cartoon of the White house where it's obviously Nixon talking to an advisor? The answer was the cover up of Watergate, not actually Watergate, right? Both of them were choices.

Oh, and I left the woman's suffrage one blank. Haha Sorry.
