So here's my dilemma.

I have two reach schools that I would like to apply to, but the problem is they both require SAT and SAT Subject; or ACT. I've already taken the SAT and I'm planning to take it again since I was stupid enough not to prepare the first time.

I don't know if I should just drop those 2 schools from my list and live with the "What if?"

or

Should I take the Subject test in November or the ACT in October?

Help please?

just based on personal experience, it is easier to deal with taking the ACT, then making sure you do well in each of the subject tests. It sounds like you weren"t too happy with your SAT score, and the ACT could take the place of that disappointing score.

Hmm, I haven’t really been exposed to the ACT yet so i don’t know how that’s going to play out. But thanks for your help :)

i highly recommend taking the ACT. you could even take it in september, if you want. the ACT, in my opinion, is an overall better test than the SAT because there’s not as much math (which is a weak area for a lot of people) and the science section can really help bring up you score since all the answers are provided by the graphs and diagrams in the question. also, i think the writing questions on the ACT are much easier to answer than the questions the SAT usually gives, even though the writing section probably won’t count much in the admissions process.
good luck!

Get The Real Prep Guide for the ACT (or something like that.) Its the big red book by the company that makes the ACT. Look over and become familiar with the tests in it. Or better yet, there is one practice test in this packet you can look at now:

http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/preparing.pdf

But get the book if you want to take the ACT. I, personally, could never live with the “What If?” But maybe you can, I don’t know. I don’t think its worth living with that question though. Its just one more test and you will know the answer to your question. Imagine if you are accepted…

if those reach schools are really high ranking schools, SAT’s the way to go. It’s harder, but combined with the Subject tests, it impresses the college admission people more. It a hell lot easier to get a 35, 36 on the ACT than a 2300 and over on the SAT and 750 and over on SAT II’s. And on SAT II’s, you can choose subjects (that is if you college lets you). So choose the subjects that you like and are good at. That way you score high and impress college admission people. Plus SAT II’s usually have big curves especially for Chem and Math II. In chem, in the practice books, the curve was so big that usually I could miss 5 or 6 and still get a perfect score. In math II, it was usually even bigger, around 6 to 8 and still a perfect score.
