SAT Subject Test Question

I apologize if this has already been asked before.

Will I be at a disadvantage if I only submit 2 SAT subject tests? If so, how much of a disadvantage?

Thanks in advance.

If they are related to the subject you apply for, you should be fine.

If you feel confident you can get a good grade on any additional SAT II’s, you should consider taking them; but it’s like opportunity cost in economics… if you can ace them with minimal studying and the extra cost isn’t a factor, then definitely take them. If you are unsure of the grade you will get, think it will take a lot of studying to get a good grade with the possibility that it might not be good, and if you have better things to do, then just do your best on two of them.

I applied BME (accepted), and submitted three, but only two were related (Math II & Chemistry). Third was U.S. History.*

*Edit: I did have an AP Biology grade though (which is related) and some other AP’s.

Regardless, decent SAT II scores will not make or break your application. If you get all 800’s for several - sure, they’ll definitely help, but it probably won’t be just because of that you get in. In other words, you won’t be at a disadvantage if you only take two. You will be at an advantage if you do very well on two rather than ok-good on three or if you do very well on three rather than very well on two. Basically, this is different for everyone.

Thanks very much for your reply! Thats the info i needed.

Hello,
I am an Israeli student so I am completely clueless about anything concerning the SAT subject tests. I was wondering; assuming I have registered for three SAT subject tests, but only did well in two; may I cancel the bad results of the third test and send only my good ones to the universities of my choice? Or will my bad results be still accessible to them? I know that it is possible to cancel the results of the regular SAT only before knowing them, and I wanted to know if this also applies to the SAT subject tests.

And another question is, do the topics for the SAT subject tests (particularly world history and u.s history) ever change? or in other words, must I purchase a 2011 book edition or is it okay to burrow it from someone who already took the tests
a year or two ago?

You can use score choice so that you only send the tests that you did well on.

if it helps, I know people that have gotten in without ANY subject tests at all…so when they say it’s optional, it really is. I wouldn’t spend too much time stressing over them.

I only took two subject tests: math and English, so that I wouldn’t have to do any extra studying for anything.

I think I scored high 600s, low 700s; I just remember I felt it was sub-par but I got in ED.

My siser took three and didn’t submit the official scores but listed them on her application…She was accepted ED.

I took Math 1 and Chemistry, my scores are low 700s. I am an international student as well. So I guess SAT2 isnt THAT important?
I think you should stress more on your essays and other stuffs :P

so if you don’t take them…you can still get in?

I was accepted RD, listed only the unofficial scores on my app and didn’t send the official reports. I only sent the ACT.

i know this was a long time ago, but which college did you guys apply to, the ones that got in?

Hi, I want to apply to John Hopkins for the early decision, but I haven’t taken any Sat subject tests. My standard Sat scores are average and I was planing to take it again in Oct. Is is better for me to take the standard sat in October and sat subject in November? Do I have a chance?
