Knowledgeable and helpful CCers!
I am having trouble finding this information:
When colleges require SAT subject tests, do they specifically require or prefer a math subject test? Are there any colleges that require whatever tests the student wants to take?
I have tried to navigate college websites, but have not been able to find this information. I am also confused when colleges require an official SAT I score, but then require the common application that asks for subject test scores. Does this mean that the college requires/prefers to have subject tests?
Thanks!

I would recommend looking at the college websites- even emailing them. Another helpful source is collegeboard. If you have an account- which you should for any SATs- you can search schools and see if you meet their testing requirements.

I know there is also a commonapp like somewhere on this website which shows a TON of schools and their specific requirements, but I can’t find it.

Regarding the Common App itself. You don’t HAVE to fill in the SAT subject tests boxes, in the same way you don’t have to fill in AP tests if you haven’t ever taken any. The common application will always have those boxes, regardless of whether or not the school itself requires or recommends the test. If you don’t want a particular school to see the scores, just make an alternate version of the common application and include the subject test scores in that one. You can get more info for doing that at the common app website.

If you are a prospective scientist/engineer, math subject tests are recommended (usually Math II and a science as well!). But honestly, it will really just depend on the particular school. Hope that helps :)

for all the UCs, they require math II…i’m about 80% sure of that…harvard and princeton need 3 sat subjects…
