I’m an international applicant and I want to apply for an ivy league school, namely Cornell University. So i’ve sat for my subject test and this is my results : Math level 2:800 Chemistry: 800, Physics: 790. So here’s my concern, I wanted to apply for a physics major at Cornell but unfortunately it’s the lowest one out of the three. I’ve heard rumour that ivys would want applicant with full scores on all subject test taken, especially for international students. Am i overthinking this? I know that subject test isn’t the main thing they’re concerned about.
Those scores are great. Don’t worry.
You’re completely overthinking about this.
Some stats for some top schools-
“MIT - admitted students score between 720 and 800 on their science Subject Test.
Middlebury - students tend to score in the low to mid 700s on the Subject Tests.
Princeton - average Subject Test scores are between 710 and 790.
UCLA - the average best Subject Test score for students was 734.
Williams - the top third of students scored between 750 and 800.” http://blog.prepscholar.com/what-is-a-good-sat-subject-test-score
Your scores are excellent, including your 790. While internationals generally have higher stats, I doubt they require all 800’s (curious as to where you heard that). Besides, Cornell only requires 2 subject tests, so you have 2 800’s fulfilling the requirement. But submit the 790 anyways, at the worst it will be a non-factor in admissions.
Yeah, you’re overthinking this.
If perfection is your goal, it will likely fail on a quantum mechanics final exam.
Agree with above. You have fantastic scores. Spend your time focused on your essay and ec’s. Most colleges want to just see 700+ scores (perhaps 720+ if with intended major), so you’re all set. By the way, if you were to retake it, it would more about your insecurity than those 10 points would add to adcoms.
Ivy leagues I would say 750+ to be extremely competitive. No school in the nation requires perfect subject test scores.
Yes!!
This post is like complaining about a 98 when you wanted a 100. Cool your jets. You’re great.
LOL, but there have also been many of those posts here as well.
All right, now i’m reassured not to retake it for the sake of 10 points :). Thanks for all your replies guys
