SAT Subject Test Score

So I took my first SAT Subject test this month and I got my score back today. I took the World History Subject Test and I got a 680. I was just wondering if this is good or not, I'm really not sure. The colleges I'm looking at are Ivy League or very competitive so I don't know if this score is good enough for them? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The 50% for subject test is around 610-660. So your score at 680 is not much above average. It is likely not the ivies looking for.

Hi! Sorry, I’m new to College Confidential, and I am not sure how to start a new thread. I’m actually kind of desperate at the moment for an answer… I took the SAT US History test June 1st. I got a 730. Do I need to retake if I’m looking at schools like Duke, Amherst, UChicago?

Thank you so much!

730 is a respectable score, but it certainly isn’t going to impress Amherst

For top schools, you want to get above the 90 percentile which is 750+ depending on subject.

@billcsho depends more on your major. If you’re going to be a math major maybe getting a 700 in CR or writing isn’t that bad if you have an 800 in math, for example. If you’re going to be a humanities major then a lower math score may be accepted

I got a 710 on my Math Level 2 Exam

Is that good?

Use this link to see the College Board’s percentile chart for all the subject tests. Keep in mind that these percentiles are generated from the scores of all students who chose to take each particular subject test. Subject test takers tend to be a relatively high achieving group of students in their tested subjects.

^ Use this table for reference only. The link above is from 2006. There are later ones (one for every year). It usually move up and down slightly. But for Math2, the 800 score went down from 90% to 85% lately.

TheNerdInClass,
If it is related to your intended major, of course it will be weighed a lot more and you should get even high percentile in score to be more competitive. However, many schools do not admit into specific major. Anyway, having any scores below 90% would likely hurt your chance at top schools. For top 50 schools, you may lower that to 75% which is around 700 (again depending on subjects).

^good point. Here’s a link to 2012 charts:

Let’s be real. 90%? A 790 is below 90% for physics and chemistry. Aim for above 750, except maybe in Math 2. MIT’s math average is 780, science 770.

The mid 50 for SAT2 Math MIT admission is 760-800, but it is not a normal distribution as the score cut off at 800. The average (and median) is closer to the 800 end. Same for the science score.

You need a 790ish for all Ivies and top notch schools. No exceptions. Unless you’re applying for art or something.
