Hey everyone I would like some more input on what prep book to use. So after searching the depths of cc, i came to the conclusion that essential contents and kaplan are the most reputable, backed up books but I’m confused because I’m hearing so many contradictory statements about both the books. Some say essential contents is a godly book and some say that it’s not specific enough, some say kaplan is amazing, some say it’s terrible. now for ME I need a book for review, not necessarily for the practice test, that states SPECIFIC details that may be the one or two things that i need to know for the 800, with that in mind, since essential contents is a shorter book, i was leaning more towards kaplan and wondered if theres any more input. I know i know, some say essentials is the best but I want a fair comparison between the two. Atleast the best one for my case. I don’t need generic or just important contents. I need specifc facts that would come up once or twice on the sat subject test that wiill help me get 800 for sure. Thanks!
@SaburosFather For Teddy Roosevelt, he only broke up trusts against public interests. He wasn’t against all trusts. Some he thought were “good” and some “bad”.
Was one of the quotes by Abraham Lincoln? Forgot what the quote was, but I put Lincoln. Did anyone else?
Yes I felt exactly the same! Harder than any of the tests I took and not much time to review. I thought there were also lots of arts& lit questions. I thought I knew most of the famous books quite well and yet there were some I had never heard of. Wasn’t too happy over all. Was expecting something a little easier @Gatortristan @Chrysanthemum14
@SaburosFather
Oh, I didn’t take this one. I was just asking how difficult the arts/lit questions were since I’m taking it next month.
I might take it again if i don’t break 700 next month.Next month I’m taking math as well
For those who took the October version of the test, is there anything you can lend regarding questions about culture? I see some discussion about specific questions but was personally wondering how heavy the test is on art, songs, books, etc. And in addition, are there any prep books that cover those culture topics really well? The people I talked to when they took the test in June told me there’s quite a bit along these lines, so that’s why I ask. Thanks!
@picknroll222 Depends on the test you get. Mine had like 7 or 8 art/literature questions. Most aren’t too bad if you know your stuff and review but some are just literally random and it’s just you either know it or you don’t. For those I just omitted and moved on/
FYI - my U.S. Hist practice test score was 560 (from the SAT official practice tests).
I only used Larry Krieger’s book - Insider’s SAI II US Hist Exam Essential Content for 2 weeks.
Was able to bump up to a 710 on the actual test ( Oct 3rd test).
Good enough for me - on to English Lit and Chemistry.
Hope this helps someone.
I’m considering taking this subject test sometime this year, but my school doesn’t offer AP classes, so I would have to self-study. I’m a junior; I took US History freshman year, and World History sophomore year. Do you think it makes more sense to take the World History subject test instead if some of the information would be fresher in my mind?
Personally I found the world history test more difficult even though some would disagree.
I won’t be submitting THAT score :))
I read through the Barron’s book this entire week leading up to the November test (tomorrow!) and am satisfied with how much it refreshed me of, since my APUSH knowledge dwindled over the summer. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
Anne Hutchinson?
This was easy. Barron’s APUSH review book is pretty much all you need to study for this imo. Just make sure you really focus on reading it. Probably only 1 or 2 questions weren’t covered in the book. Ended up omitting two. So far I know I got two wrong.
@MrAustere the answer at something to do with clergy shouldn’t be the only ones to be able to interpret scriptures
Colony that’s ethnically diverse and religious toleration?
@Chrysanthemum14 Shoot, I got it wrong.
@MrAustere
Pennsylvania
@Chrysanthemum14 Dang, two wrong for sure.
I’m feeling pretty good about it.
Does anyone know what the reaction WW1 was or whatever? (you know what I’m talking about)
Also, the last one? I’d never heard of Levittown
@tmcl24 What were the specifics of the WWI question?
@MrAustere It was something like “which of these best describes the United States’ reaction to WWI”
They were the lend lease and kellogg briand pact which I know were after WWI, the Good neighbor policy which wouldn’t have made sense, and I can’t remember the other 2.
@tmcl24 Kellog Briand is the answer. For Levitown it was an assembly line approach to home building.
