When subject tests are recommended but not required and you have a 690, should you send the subject test to a Ivy type school?
I would say no. Either don’t send subject tests or retake them for a higher score.
so they can hurt you?
I don’t think they play a huge role in the admissions process, but you’re going to be up against applicants with 800s across the board. I think a competitive score for these kinds of school should at minimum be around 700-720, but preferably higher. Again, subject tests aren’t a huge factor in admissions (this is emphasized by the fact that they’re no longer required) but those who do submit them typically have great scores. So, in my opinion, a 690 is a little on the low end.
Thanks - so even though they recommend don’t send if in 690 range. Appreciate the input
Correct. If you have time I think you should definitely try to take two subject tests and score well, but if you don’t have time to adequately prepare for those it would be better not to send your 690. Good luck!
