Just how important are subject test scores for schools like Yale, Columbia, Duke, and U.Va?

Very important!

I'd say they're important to the extent that you may be deferred or rejected due to low SAT II scores.

The reason I'm asking is because I have a 790 in math 2 and then a 600 in literature. My resume is pretty well otherwise and I'm worried about the 600.

600 is probably something to retake.

I second post #3

They are pretty important in admissions.

Why dont u try World History or if u can, go for a foreign language.

Literature is ubdoubtedly the hardest SAT II. Its curve is a killer.

Just curious - are SAT subject tests considered equal substitutes for the APs?

^ hmmm

they're different. but subject tests are apparently more considered during the admissions process.
