Will an 800 on the Math IIC sat make up for a mediocre SAT Math Score of 680?

For context I’m applying to Northeastern/Northwestern, JHU, RPI, Tufts, Cornell, Brandeis and MiamiU(in florida, not ohio)

If you have the time, I’d take the SAT again; it’s obvious you can improve the Math score, and that’d solidify your math resume.

Yeah I’m not sure if I have the time to prepare the Writing and Critical Reading sections again, but if colleges accept the January SAT for regular decision that would be great.

Most colleges will superscore SAT I, so while it would not be ideal to see your CR & W scores fall by 100 points each, a higher math score will really help. Could you take the Dec exam? If you have solid CR & W scores, simply taking a couple practice exams might refresh you enough on those areas and then perhaps brush up on geometry, or whatever it was that tripped you up on the math section.

I do not believe that a strong SAT II score makes up for a relatively weak SAT I score. A 680 on math is at or below the 25th percentile of enrolled freshmen at Hopkins, Cornell, Tufts & Northwestern. I don’t know stats for the other schools you named, but assume the same. You do not want your score to be at or below the 25th percentile, unless you are a hooked applicant.

No, so try to retake SAT.

I’m taking the December exam for some SAT Subject tests already, unless it’s possible to change what SAT test you registered for

Yeah just found out you can change what test you take, so thanks! I’m definitely going to retake the SAT.

Excellent! Now……take practice tests!

Wait, some information I should probably add- I haven’t taken the actual Math Level 2 SAT, but am consistently scoring 800’s on practice tests, I took Math Level 1 and got a 680… So with this info in mind should I still retake the SAT and not take the Math Level 2?
