Hello,

I'm definitely planning on applying ED to NU School of Communication (planning on being a theatre major). I spent 5 weeks there at the National High School Institute Theatre Arts Cherubs program and fell in love with the environment.

Stats:
Best SAT: Reading-680 Math-670 Writing-680 (2030 total)
Best ACT: 30

I'm planning on taking the ACT one more time and possibly the SAT, just focusing on improving the math section since they Super Score.

My SAT Subject tests are ok, but not stellar. NU says they recommend but don't require the scores. Would it be better not to send them?

Literature: 680
U.S. History: 720

If NU recommends, then trust me…many will send in their scores (assuming they are competitive). Your subject scores aren’t bad…so if I were you, I would send these anyway.

Good Luck!

I would focus on getting both your reading and math scores up. Both scores are on the low side unless you have a hook. Your SAT IIs are competitive, but will not help or hurt.

pizzamonster - How are your AP scores and GPA in math and English?

The reason I ask, is that when my son called NU @ 2 years ago, someone in admit office told him that the purpose of the SAT IIs is to show an applicant’s strength in an area that grades or test scores didn’t. Almost like a do-over… So, if you got a 5 in AP Comp, and a 5 in Calc BC, and you got As in the classes at school, then you are not going to need to take SAt IIs.

Bottom line, my son didn’t take any SATIIs and got admitted ED. Good luck to you!

I also did not take any SATIIs and got in. That being said, if you’ve taken them, they can only help you unless they are really bad.

I’ve had the same question…

DD is applying to Medill - best ACT is 33 (E - 28, M - 35, Rdg 33, Sci 35), SAT subject test were 710 for both Chemistry and Math Level 1. Her school counselor recommended NOT sending Northwestern the SAT subject test because they weren’t great (weren’t bad - she called them “on the bubble” for Northwestern) and felt that her ACT Math and Science scores looked better. AP scores were ok (Chem 4, Bio 3)

Any thoughts? Send the SAT subject tests or not? She does not want to retake them…

Spartuna- I agree with the guidance counselor. Those subject test scores are borderline and not apt to impress the ADCOM. However, her ACT score is quite impressive.
