So… if I don’t get over 650 on my subject tests should I give up on applying to Dartmouth? What if I do well on math but bomb biology? I did well on the bio ap test but some of these practice questions could be written in Latin for all I know. Well, I guess a lot of them do have Latin in them anyway haha, but that’s beside the point. Help me!
I always say go for it. What do you have to lose!? My SAT Subject tests are up to par, but my Critical Reading on the SAT Reasoning Test is only in the mid 600s. Just try!
Yeah, I guess I already signed up so I might as well go haha
What are your scores so far @smithemi97 ?
I ended up going. That was my first time taking subject tests though. I previously scored a 33 and 2080 on ACT and SAT, respectively. Guessing by the number I left blank and those which I think I got wrong, I’d say my potential range for math is like 640-700 and biology is like 680-740. (those are based on the score table in my collegboard practice book)
To clarify, math was the same difficulty as my practice test, biology went much better than expected.
@smithemi97 Are you applying to Dartmouth after all? I got the same SAT score from this October’s test, and I have 670 Chem and 600 Spanish, both of which taken in junior year. If I am planning on retaking the SAT in November and SAT IIs in December, would you say its worth applying to Dartmouth?
SAT IIs should, in theory, only improve since I have learned a lot more of the content since then
I got my scores back last week, 640 bio and 680 math I. I’m fine with math, but I know at the end of bio I went back and guessed on a number of questions that I should have just left blank. I’m thinking about retaking them in December after studying harder haha. @crawleytownfc I already took ap bio last year so at this point it’s not how much I’ve learned, but how much I’ve lost! Maybe after a couple months now of calc I’ll try math II next time. And sorry, but I am currently asking myself the same question about the worth of even applying so I really can’t help you there
@smithemi97 Why wouldn’t you apply? Your scores are not dismal and Dartmouth is interested in much more than your testing results. You don’t want to look back and wonder “What if ?”
Don’t assume anything, let them decide the answer is no, don’t make the decision for them.
Well I think @saffysmum 's comment makes sense. I know that Dartmouth is where id really like to go for college and at least I won’t regret that I didn’t apply! You should go for it, too, @smithemi97!
Which biology test did you take? Personally, it only took a week of studying to get a 770 on E. If you’re lookin to improve I’d take E over M.
One of the great things about the Dartmouth admissions process is that they are super holistic the entire way. I definitely say you should still apply, but retake them just to bump up your application. Good luck! This time is super stressful and regardless of the decision, remember that there are always other amazing schools.
Yeah I took E as well. I know I could improve a lot if I studied a little more. I took one practice test untimed for each math and bio so that obviously wasn’t the best form of studying I could have been doing haha. I think I will take them again, and yeah I guess I’ll throw my hat in the ring even if they don’t come up. Thanks guys.
