Hi, I got a 650 on the Math II in sophomore year (horrible, I know). Do I have to send that to USC? All USC says about Subject Tests is that they’re optional, so I don’t know if I’m allowed to use Score Choice for them or not? I retook Math II this month and am expecting a 780+ anyways, but I would prefer to hide the 650.
My son didn’t do so well on the subject tests either, and opted not to send them. He did really well on the SAT. He ended up with a merit scholarship. I think if something doesn’t help to cast you in the best light possible, and it is optional, leave it off!
Yes you can use score choice. Subject tests aren’t mandatory, just recommended for things like engineering. Just send your best.
So in general, if Subject Tests aren’t required and the school doesn’t explicitly say that it wants ALL SAT scores, then I can use Score Choice on Subject Tests?
From USC website: Are SAT Subject exams required?
“We require SAT Subject tests only from first-year applicants who do not attend a regionally accredited high school (such as home school, some non-accredited parochial or community based programs, even some newer schools). These students must submit three SAT Subject exams, including one in mathematics, in addition to the SAT or ACT. For all other applicants, these exams are optional.”
If you are engineering you better be sending in a math and science, that is “optional” for them. But for others they are optional, but good scores can boost the application. Send in only the scores you want. Yes, score choice is fine to use for USC.
