SAT Subject Tests

Hi, I’m a junior and I’m wondering the importance of sat subject tests in admissions process. I’m looking at schools like northwestern which reccomend 2 subject tests. For a school like this, would low 700’s be good enough if I have a pretty good act score (35) and otherwise high stats? Thanks!

I got in Weinberg for environmental science with a 710 in u.s. History, bio, and math2 and my act score was a 34. I would say yes it is possible, but your extracurriculars are wayyy more important.

Thanks! @lanabanana99. Congrats on NU! It’s an amazing school! Do you have any more suggestions for going through this process? You could private message me.

Thanks! Basically, the same thing applies to NU and other selective colleges like doing a lot of research for the “why us?” essay prompt and really showing your love for that school. Also, NU really values your demonstrated intrest so go visit and email them when you have a question you can’t find the answer to.

Thanks, I’m planning on applying ed since I love the school and it’s the best use of my legacy since both parents attended. Did you apply early?

SAT subject tests are the least important of all the testing, that is straight from Harvards AO.

Thanks @CU123! Do you know where AP tests stand? I have heard they’re used just for placement.

They rank far below Subject Tests, if they matter at all. Generally, as you mention, they are useful for credit or placement. AP score reporting is optional on the Common App, and score reports are generally only sent once you decide on a college to attend.

That said, reporting a lot of 5’s won’t hurt you, although a bunch of 1’s and 2’s won’t do you any favors, IMO.

I know an applicant that got waitlisted at NU with a 800 USH, 770, Literature, 770 Math 2, 2270 on SATs. Scores are always evaluated in context - so major, URM, first-gen, family situation etc…

Was this regular decision @theloniusmonk? I heard NU is a lot harder to get into rd than ed.

RD, he got off the waitlist btw.
