SAT subject tests.

Hi,
I’m an international student and I’m planning on applying to college.
I will be taking the SAT and TOEFL this October and I was just wondering if taking the SAT subject tests will increase my college admission chances.

You have to check the web sites of each college that you want to apply to. A lot of selective schools require up to three. Some will consider them, meaning that they are optional, but it could possibly help you if you submit a good score. It will not help you to turn them in to colleges that don’t consider them. Some places let you turn in AP scores instead of subject tests. Every college is different. The only way to be sure is to check each college’s web page carefully.

Some of the colleges’ websites that I’ve checked don’t have any information about whether or not they recommend taking the SAT subject test, but they don’t requrie them. On Amherst’s page however, they mentionned that students that took AP classes in May should consider taking the corresponding SAT II subject test soon after. What does that mean?

Test scores are very important to Amherst. They recommend that you take the SAT with writing/essay. Subject tests and AP tests are not required, but if you do take them and get good scores, it will help you.

<<on amherst’s="" page="" however,="" they="" mentioned="" that="" students="" took="" ap="" classes="" in="" may="" should="" consider="" taking="" the="" corresponding="" sat="" ii="" subject="" test="" soon="" after.="" what="" does="" mean?="">>

I would take this to mean that if you take an AP-level class, they would like to see either an AP score or a subject test score, if possible.

Remember, different colleges have different policies. You have to look at each one to which you apply. Look for “admission requirements” on each college’s web page and read carefully.
