SAT Subject Tests

I am planning which subject tests to take in October. I know that I will definitely take Math Level 2 and Physics. For the third test, is it advisable that I take a test in a completely different subject area (like Literature), or would it be okay to take another science test (like Chemistry) if it produces a better score?

well obviously do the one you think you wil get a better score on

Well, I'd second Tart.

Now a question of my own: I didn't do particularly well on my Brit A level exams. I'm thinking applying ED and I have 800/800/740 SAT subject test scores in Math II/Chem/Bio M. I've been thinking about taking more SAT IIs. Do you think six SAT IIs would make my case stronger than would three? Plus, would taking Math I after Math II seem redundant?

You really only need three from different subjects. So I would recommend taking a history, language, or literature SAT II.

Yeah...don't take Math I...it is, as you said, redundant, and you risk getting a lower score as well (after all, you can miss 4 or 5 on the level II and get an 800--miss 1 on level I and your score is lowered).

Thanks for your insights.

I am, in fact, taking World History. Literature is not my thing. As for languages, I can do a little bit of German & French but definitely not 700+ material.

As for Maths 1, well...I had a C in Maths in A lvl exams and I know it's way too under-representative of my Mathematical abilities. I have 800s in SAT Reasoning Math and SAT Math level 2. I just thought pulling off another 800 would seal the deal, and I really do believe I can do it. What do you think?

The third one I'm left with is Physics, and I just wanna take it for the heck of it!

(Where the heck is the edit button?!)

Anyways, I just discovered that for some sick, twisted reason, World History isn't offered in October, or even November :s Now this is starting to skrew me up...!

I know...I thought that was pretty wacked out myself...either you take a humanities or you just skip it and hope your other ecs/grades/ap scores? balance out your sats.

I dont think taking a Math I test is a bad idea at all. It's easy, and it shows that you aren't just getting high scores because of easy curves (a la Math IIC). I got maybe one wrong and got a 770(left one blank), but I don't regret taking it.

Yeah, the whole World History policy screwed me up too. I had gone through about 1/3 of the Barron's book when I found out (from this website). I've been a devoted CCer ever since from mere gratitude. What would have happened 5 weeks before the test when I tried to sign up?... AGHHHH.

No APs (or other courses of the sort) happen to be offered around my part of the world! So SATs are pretty much the best bet you've got to improve your standing. I think I'm gonna go ahead with Math I and Physics at least. Perhaps I should get hold of a literature test prep book and see how I fare. I've never studied literature all my life, which kinda shows the fact that I pretty much despise it! But still, given my options, it seems sensible to do something rather than nothing. I hope taking an exam in something you've never done before doesn't turn out to be too bad a choice. Whelp!
