The official word from the USC website-

"Are SAT Subject exams required?
SAT Subject Tests are optional for most students (except homeschooled) but strongly recommended. These exams can be very helpful in evaluating scholarship applicants."

cait_17, remember that you will be applying to multiple schools and the subject tests are not optional for most colleges. You get to choose your areas of strength...you will probably find that the subject tests feel much easier that the more general SAT/ACT tests.

thanks. i looked it up and the schools im applying to don't require them.

i'll probably take them too, if they're easy and you get to choose the subjects im good in...

i think that they can only help you. i didn't take them- couldn't be bothered. if your SAT I/ACT score is strong, i reccomend doing what i did. or perhaps i'm just lazy, and more tests just seemed like a waste of time and money.

another question...im planning to give my subject tests in december. the deadline for scholarship applicants is december 10th. Will they still consider my scores while making decisions.i emailed the admission department a couple of times but they didnt reply. Anybody know if they do???im really anxious and need to know quick so i can register and study for the test accordingly

i took my SAT I in december for the december 10 scholarship deadline and they accepted that. i assume it would be the same for the SAT IIs, just make sure to note on your application that you took the tests and your scores are coming
