SAT Subject Tests

I have already taken two subject tests. I took world history and got a 740 and took Japanese with listening and got a 790 (I'm not japanese)* I know that the vast majority of schools need a max of two subject tests but i've been hearing that it's better to take a math and/or science test as well. I plan on applying to really competitive schools (brown, stanford, etc) and I was wondering if its worth it to take a third subject test (prob math) or to stick with the two I have now? even though both my tests are technically humanities related. (ps-i know that stanford technically doesn't have any subject test requirements, but i suppose the questions till applies). I'm not really sure what to do. I don't what to get rejected because my two subject tests don't include a hard science/math.

*i included that because i wanted it to be clear that i'm not a native speaker who took the japanese test for an easy good grade.

Some colleges are specific as to which subject tests they require - have you checked requirements? Also, what are you intending to major in? If math or science, then I would suggest another subject test. And finally, was your SAT Math score sufficiently high that you don't need to "supplement" it with a subject test?

I should have specified. The colleges I've been looking at (which include Brown and Stanford) are not specific as to which subject tests they want. However, I have heard that even if colleges don't say which tests they prefer and that you can pick any two, that they favor students who took math/science subject tests than humanities related ones. Is this true? Because I don't want an admissions officer to say something like "hmm...this student took the "easy" route with world history instead of physics, reject!" I'm still completely undecided on an intended major and I haven't taken the SAT 1 yet (will take it in june) but I normally score on the math section between 670-700 on practices.

I hope this cleared things up a bit.

You should definitely take Math level 2.

I'm in a similar situation; I've planned on taking Subject Tests in the humanities, but after hearing that math/science tests would be looked upon more favorably, I'm reconsidering. What do you guys think about the myth that math/science tests -- or, at least, balancing humanities tests with one of the math tests or a science test -- outweigh humanities one? Is there any truth to that?

I don't buy the argument that you have to show well-roundedness through SATII tests; I think that should show through other elements of your application. Take the tests that you feel you will perform best in (or ones that are required of course) and let your ECs/transcript/other aspects of your application show the rest.

Personally, I am taking three because I already took Latin this past December so two in one day will not kill me. I am taking US History and Math IC this Saturday. I want to be a Classics or PoliSci major, so the US and Latin show my strengths in my favorite subjects, and the math one is supplemental.
