SAT Subject tests

Just wondering, exactly how important are the subject tests 4 columbia?? would they penalize you for very low scores (like around 500) even if you have a very high sat (like around 2300) and an URM?

I doubt admissions will turn a blind eye toward such a low SAT subject score just because you’re a URM. If you got a 2300 on the SAT, you should be able to do extremely well on at least these two subject tests: Math I and English Literature.

Yes I know, the problem is that I studied extremly hard for the SAT after taking in January and getting close to a 1600, and not studing at all for the subject tests :expressionless: I didn’t think it was such a big deal until I read these forums and witnessing everyone doing extremly well on their tests. Damn I regret being lazy.

i think standarized test scores are put into a large pool. meaning, one can do well on his/her standarized tests, not just do well on SAT or SAT subjects

so i think they are as important as the SAT because they belong in the same category: standarized tests

Are we talking the old SAT, out of 1600, or the new SAT, out of 2400? If it’s the latter, you can practically kiss your chances goodbye.

Out of 2400. And I raised my score over 700 points in 5 months. So how would I be blowing my chances goodbye?

You’re saying you started with a 900? ***?

no the op went from a 1600 to a 2300 in 5 months, that’s just fcking crazy. Columbia will take your SAT score to be 2300, they look at the best score on each section, because you haven’t taken the test 4 or 5 times. do to your SAT 2s what you did to your SAT 1. you’ll be fine.

This is entirely false. English Lit is the hardest test to get an 800 on (objectively speaking, not based on my personal opinion) while Math 1 has the harshest curve with one mistake losing you the 800.
