I know you guys have seen this question a million times, but is it worth for me to take the SAT a third time in the fall and also, how does a superscore work? Do most colleges superscore (even Ivies?) and how does it “look”?
My first SAT: 2140
Math: 770
CR: 660
Writing: 710
Second time: 2160
Math: 710
CR: 730
Writing: 720
Superscore: 2220
I bombed my math the second time and I think part of the reason why it’s so low is because the second SAT I took had an error in it and they completely omitted 2 sections of the SAT (including math).
I’m planning on taking it again in October (is it worth it, can I still improve?). What are my chances for Ivies and/or (more realistically) second tier colleges like Tufts and Johns Hopkins?
Just FYI, I’m not dying to go to an Ivy. My realistic first choice is something like Johns Hopkins (2nd tier). THANKS A MILLION!!!
(Oh and if it matters, I think my unweighted GPA is something like 3.9-4.0)
Lots of schools will superscore but you have to look into individual websites for confirmation (go to their testing policies page). Have you taken SAT2s? Are any schools on your list requiring them? If so and you have not taken them use your October test date for those subject tests. If you are good to go on subject tests, I personally think your scores are fantastic (especially if where you are applying superscores) so I would recommend spending that precious time in October focusing on your essays, giving your ECs time they require, and keeping up your excellent GPA.
Senior fall is really really really busy and if you don’t need to waste a Saturday taking another SAT by all means don’t. Believe me it will be your essay, ECs, recs, and quality of application you submit that will separate you from the rest of applicants with 2200+ scores and 3.9+ GPAs. You’ll get a seat at the table, but what you personally convey to them regarding what you will bring to their school will be the determining factor.
