SAT Test Prep Tips

I am currently a rising senior about to take my SAT in Oct. The last two SAT I took I didn’t study at all and got a 1290 and 1390. My last two practice tests are 1500 and 1580. I want to get up to the 1800+ range to make my college application more competitive. That being said what types of prep should i do? Currently I have two prep book, one being the Kaplan SAT tips/ strategy book, and the other being the Kaplan 12 practice test book. ( I borrowed these from my local library) And I complete a section (or a practice test) and look over my work to see what I got wrong, but my score isn’t increasing at the speed I want it to increase at. What should I do?

Unrelated info: I was also planning to take the ACT in September (still undecided)

Definitely purchase the College Board SAT Blue Book! The book includes actual SAT practice tests (10 of them), with the questions extremely similar to what is on the real SAT. Since the Blue Book is created by College Board, it’s the closest thing to the SAT. In the CB Blue Book, there are chapters with tips for each section, essay examples that scored 6’s, 5’s, 4’s, 3’s etc. It has been said that the Blue Book is by far the most helpful compared to all of the various SAT books available. It wouldn’t hurt to try taking the ACT. Some score higher on the ACT than the SAT. Good luck!

I would also like to add in if using Khan Academy would be useful as they have partnered with The College Board and offer test prep

bump. Someone else pls respond thanks.

I’m using Essential 500 Words by Larry Krieger to help with the vocabulary on CR.

Yes, use the the Kahn Academy videos

@bloo890 Khan may not be that useful because a lot of that is directed towards the new SAT, so use it with discretion.
