Hey guys, I am a junior who has already taken an SAT Class,( Revolution Prep, Ivy Insiders, the 3 week crash course), but it didn't really help me that much.
I'm debating between hiring an SAT tutor, one had i had heard from with really good reviews, versus self studying for the SAT.
An SAT tutor is really expansive, but when I've tried to self study, I can never motivate myself to take the 3 hr mock exams from the collegeboard book. I have gone back on my SAT and figured out what I did wrong.
What should I do?
Oh, and I am averaging 1600-1700 on the SAT.

If you can’t do the 3 hr, do at least 30 minutes a day. That’s what D2 did. SAT exam is an endurance test. SAT tutor will not help you in that regard.

If you can, I’d recommend working with a tutor. (Disclaimer: I am a tutor) Your tutor can create a structure for you so that you study in bite-sized pieces and actually do the work.

It’s great the you have already gone back and figured out what you did wrong. Your tutor can also help in that regard - I show my students not only how to solve the problem, but also the quickest way to solve the problem - which often results in a score increase since they then can answer more questions correctly.

A tutor will also be looking for patterns in your errors (looking at not only which questions you answered incorrectly, but which answer you choose instead and why) Sometimes stuff as simple as “write down all the steps in the problem and solve it out completely” (for a student who kept falling into trap answers) and “re-read the question before you look at the answer” (for a student who was rushing and not thoroughly reading the question) and “let’s review remainders and exponent rules” (for a student who didn’t know this math content) can result in a major point increase.

Of course, YMMV. And DrGoogle is right - working on your own a little every day will help as well. And either way, it is a really good idea to practice a full 3 hour timed test a couple of times before your real SAT.

You don’t need an expensive tutor. You could just find someone who would be willing to proctor the test for you.

you should try both
