The general consensus is that AMSCO is the best prep book for SAT II history.

If you have no prior knowledge, a self-study could be difficult as this test covers a LOT of material. However, if you read the AMSCO thouroughly and feel comfortable with it you should be able to score high with the curve.

Crash Course is good for answering difficult questions on the exam but it’s written based on the assumption that you have prior knowledge so it leaves out a LOT of stuff. It’s definitely not enough on its own.

Read the AMSCO book first, then read Crash Course as the exam approaches.

Its impossible to take the test without ANY prior knowledge, you should at least know all the major themes.

You must get crash course, it’s amazing!! I used it and I got 770.

Crash course is fast reading, you can finish the whole book in 3 hours. So if crash course is the only prep guide you are going to get then thoroughly read it at least 4-5 times.

i got a 800 but i was in an AP US class. i only used my review book from the class which was fantastic and prepared me well. it was designed for AP and was called fast track for a 5 but it worked for the SAT subject test as well and i recommend it highly. alas i cannot tell you if would help for self study because i combined my knowledge from the class with the book

Thank you so much guys!!!
I am going to get AMSCO as well
Thank you once again!
