SAT U.S. History vs MATH II

Hello everyone, I am signed up for three subject tests this upcoming June administration, World History, U.S. History, and Math 2. I took APWH this year and I took APUSH my freshman year, and so I took one official practice test for each one, and I got a safe 800 for World history, and a 730 for US history. I signed up for Math 2 because I heard it had an easy curve and I also heard that it would look good to send in three instead of two, but I am not well prepared for Math 2. I think I can get an 800 on US history because I haven’t reviewed US history since my freshman year, and I’m naturally good at history so I can review very efficiently. I also took the Barron’s practice test for Math 2 and I got a 610, which is 25th percentile. I could try and prepare for it but I don’t know if I can get my score up to 700+. If I send in two history subject tests, will colleges care? would they rather see some variety?

Hi! I’m having math level 2 and physics (and maybe biology M)

TBH I find the fact that you excel at history impressive! I find math level 2 easy to prepare for (coming from someone whose best subject is math). If you have taken algebra, geometry, and a full year of trigonometry, then I advise you give level 2 a try. A 610 is a pretty decent first score on a Barron’s test (it is harder than the real thing). Otherwise, I’d suggest you take level 1 instead. (although only basic math is covered, the curve is much worse than that of level 2).

Thank you @BethanyD I am actually in calc AB this year so I don’t think taking Math I is an option. I have heard that Barron’s is harder, but I was hoping for a 780 on the real thing and I don’t think I can make it, even when accounting for prep and the fact that Barron’s is harder.

I have to take my ACT on September and possible October so I didn’t want to take Math 2 then

can you not do math level 2 separately on october (because I see you have a very good shot at getting a 700+), or would it be too late? I’d advise you take your time now and rest instead of preparing for math level 2 because the other two subjects are what really matters after all.

@BethanyD Thank you :smiley:

@BethanyD I think I’m going to focus on US history and leave math 2 for October. I might not take it just because most colleges that I’m looking at only require two, and I doubt Ill do better on math 2 than either US or world history.
