Hi guys. So I went on college board today to check my sat scores but they weren’t there and showed the message saying my scores are unavailable. I called college board after school today and they said my scores weren’t available because there was such a drastic increase in my score. I got a 1480 when I took the SAT past January and the guy said my score was approximately in the 2000’s range for the october one. He said that they will contact me within 2 weeks if they find something. The thing that’s annnoying me is that the reason I did so bad in January was because my calculator stopped working in the middle and I freaked out. So I decided to just guess on the rest of the test because I figured I was going to cancel my scores when I gone home that day. But my parent’s didn’t let me they said just wait let’s just see how you did you can always improve. My PSAT score was a 198 Junior year and on practice test’s with princenton review in the past summer I was getting around 1900’s so the 1480 shocked me. So I studied my butt off everyday since the January SAT and finally took it in October. The thing that’s really bugging me is that my proctor that day said we can sit where ever we want and this kid who sat near me had the same exact test as me and copied all my answers every single one! So now I’m scared that college board will be in favor of him ( I think it’s his first time taking the SAT) and think I cheated because I did so poorly on my last SAT test. And what’s ever more sketchy is that for the math section I never really show work in my booklet as I always do the work on my calculator but for the reading section I showed my work by like underling important words making margin notes etc. So do you have any idea what will happen to me? My college apps are all due soon and I don’t have the time or energy to take the SAT again. Any suggestions on what I should do?
Do you have any of the prep materials? Did you take a class?
I have to admit, this does sound very fishy.
Yeah I took a class with the princeton review in the summer. In my diagnostics test I got a 1440 then by the end of the course I had close to a 1900. I still have some of the books they gave me and I have my scores on their online portal.
Keep all of it. Take screen shots of your online score reports and save them.
Should I also take a screen shot of my PSAT since its closer to the 2000?
I’m confused with your story.
No SAT math question requires a calculator. A smarter move would have been to not randomly guess on the rest of the test.
If that kid cheated off of you, why did you not report it to your proctor or to CB?
It just freaked me out that my calculator stopped working and it got me reqlly tensed up. And yeah I shouldn’t have guessed on the rest of the test it was a dumb decision. I couldnt sleep till 4am that night and my head wasn’t straight. Honestly I didn’t care enough to report him usually I don’t really have a problem with people cheating off me but I didn’t know it will come back and bite me like this.
How do you know that you had the same test as the student next to you?
I was just glancing around and saw him copying me for each section and whenever I had math he would have math, whenever I had reading he would have reading etc
Keep us updated. I’m interested in this thread.
Your story breaks down a bit. You say your PSAT was 198 in your junior year. Then, you take the SAT and score a 1480 (evidently because your calculator broke down, I get it). Yet then why on your Princeton Review diagnostic test did you get a 1440? You had a 198 (1980) PSAT! Scores can vary, but NO ONE has ever reported a score dropping 500 points. How did you manage to get a 198 PSAT and then 1440 on your DIAGNOSTIC (your calculator was working) test? Effectively, you went from 1980 (PSAT), to 1480 (calculator broke), 1440 (Princeton Review Test w/ working calculator), to 2000s (recent SAT). I’m confused.
The fact you knew the kid next to you had the same test is also sketchy. Why would you care to look at what he’s doing? Focus on your own test. If he’s cheating, ignore it. He’ll get caught. If it bothered you so much, report to the proctor afterwards.
Sorry I messed up the story a little. The princenton reviews diagnostic test I took was in august and the psat was in October. So I got a 1440 first then a 198 later.
You have an SAT of 1440 and then ~2000 and one of 1440. That would have been flagged by the computer, and then humans follow it up. When they see a PSAT from the previous year of 198, then it looks like an anomaly. No big deal.
But like many of the other posters, you keep piling on details that make your story sound sketchy. You stay up til 4am the night before the SAT? Your calculator breaks down so you decide not to do any of the rest of the test- including the non-math sections? You guess all the rest of the test, but you ‘show your work’ by underlining? You not only ‘notice’ that your neighbor has the same test - or at least the same order of sections- but you also notice that he has copied your entire paper? (btw, tests can be in the same order and not have the same questions).
Nobody can possibly know what will happen to you. If the story is exactly as you say, there should be no problem. If you are actually guilty of something and CB figures it out, then this is what happens.
I showed my work for the SAT test I took recently I meant. And yeah I kept telling you guys details so you can have the full story. I stayed up till 4am because I was so nervous which is one of the reasons I think I got the 1480. And yeah so I took the SAT’s two times so far. Once in January with the score being 1480 and the one in October being around 2000 the test that has been flagged. You think if I explain to them my situation of what happened they’ll let me go? I’m really not trying to retest.
And the only way I noticed him copying was that he was so obvious cause he sat right next to me and I can see him through the corner of my eye.
I’m thinking you might be using this post as a trial run of your defense … but I’m not buying it. Too many things don’t add up. If you really prepped as much as you say you did for 10 months, you should just plan retake it in November and December and use those scores.
If you did get a 198 on your PSAT then you may be Ok because they will have that test on your file. However it probably is best for you to sign up for the next SAT. They may drag their feet and since you are a Senior you only have so much time left to test.
I’m taking the ACT today so I been studying that for the past month. It’s not like I can’t take the SAT again, I can but I’d rather not cause I’m so busy with college apps, work, school etc.
