I am a high school junior in Virginia. My SAT scores are decent (low for CC standards), I can manage 2100 (650 ea for Verbal and Writing, 800 Math) pretty consistently, but my ACT scores are better - I am making 34-36 (composite) on practice tests.

Considering that I live on the East Coast where the SAT still beats out the ACT in popularity, and assuming that I make these scores for real on the SAT/ACT, which score should I submit to colleges? Would they look suspiciously upon my ACT score, given my location? I am especially concerned because I will probably take both the SAT I and ACT in addition to SAT IIs, so colleges will see my SAT I score and know that I am not doing as well on the SAT I than the ACT.

34-36 is freaking AMAZING. i live on the west coast and thought about that at first, but honestly, if you can score a 34-36 on the ACT, your intellect should not be something to question.

some people just do better on different tests. i say go for the ACT.

do you have to submit sat scores? if i were you i’d just submit your act scores, which are awesome. since basically all universities take act as well as sat and i highly doubt that any place would be “suspicious”. i knew a girl who took act only and got accepted into ivy league last year. i’m in nj.

Thanks! Yeah I know that they all take ACT, I was just worried about whether the ACT would raise some flags since I am not from an ACT-majority region. I feel better now, Thanks again! (:

Take the ACT and ace it. If you take SAT 2’s then your SAT I scores will be sent. Don’t waste your time taking SAT I’s if you do so well on the ACT. No college will care about ACT over SAT.
