I haven't studied vocab for the SAT at all with only 12 days left till my first SAT Test. On top of that, my vocabulary is weak. What is the best way for me to prep vocab or the best list i can find online to use if i want to get only 1-2 wrong on the vocab questions? (I tend to be a quick at memorizing long vocab lists in short time as seen from past vocab tests - even though i forget those words after i give the test) -- Thankssss

Direct Hits Volumes 1 and 2.

^Is DH that good? Will memorizing words in those 2 books basically get you close to perfect on SC?

no .

Reading vocab words isn’t everything. It’s mostly noticing the tense and tone of the sentence and putting the wording used in context and picking the best word, you can practically go to the test cold with no vocab review and do well.

^ that’s true. There are times when you know all the words in the answer choices but still answer incorrectly. However, a strong vocab is necessary to perform well. DH 1 and 2 are very much liked in the forums here and you won’t find a better place to seek SAT advice. People, though, think that 400 words is not sufficient and go on to memorize other lists.

DH DH DH! I’m only 155/400 words in and have only done 2 CR blue book tests (just started studying on Saturday, still trying to refresh my SAT mind) and even though there are only 400 words in DH, its accuracy is amazing. Even if I don’t remember what a word means (cause I certainly don’t have the 155 words memorized yet) I recognize it as a DH word. DH is the way to go.

Direct Hits is definitely a good resource, but you won’t be able to find it in bookstores. By the time you order and receive it from Amazon, it’s going to be too late to be much help, at least for this test. If you really dig long lists of random words you can find tons of them online (just google SAT vocabulary…you’ll find thousands of words). Not a great strategy either, but at least that’s readily available. Personally, I like a website [Word-Nerd: vocabulary test prep for the SAT and PSAT](http://www.word-nerd.com) - you can get immediate access to lots of well organized words. It’s actually probably right up your alley. Best of luck on the test!

[Simple Word Game – Learn Vocabulary](http://www.simplewordgame.com) is a great site to test your vocab knowledge
