Hello I am a sophomore and if was wondering i have until next January or October till my SAT's depending on how comfortable i feel and was wondering whether i should either get Directs Hit or Barron's 3500 Vocab

bump…

I used Direct Hits, which did very well on the March SAT. If you are good at memorizing and have an entire year, then I guess you can do Barron’s 3500. But I probably wouldn’t…Direct Hits is concise and has the most hits out of any vocab book.

Here’s a thread analyzing the performance of several vocab books on the March 14 SAT:

Barron’s did have 5 more hits than Direct Hits, but you had to memorize way more words per hit using Barron’s than using Direct Hits.

I’d probably go with Direct Hits so you have plenty of time to work on other sections of the test, unless vocab is the only think you need to work on.

I’ve never heard of Direct Hits. I used Barron’s to prepare for the SAT (way back in 2003 :D) and I got an 800 CR. I think their vocabulary list is the best of the books I’ve seen, and you don’t have to go down the list and memorize every single word. You will find that you are already familiar with many of the words; my strategy was to get kids to make flash cards of the words that they didn’t know.
