I am not extremely confident about my vocab. i know there are lists of words that always manage to pop up on the SATs. Please post how you studied for the reading/writing portions of the SAT, and where to study vocab

I read. Everything.

Smartguy, try searching in the old CC archives. Xiggi posted several vocabulary lists. Good luck.

princeton review helped me a lot

aignam is the biggest ******* I know.. Anybody agree?

RBase07, please calm down before all of these threads get locked...

I'll try, but it won't be easy. :)

Read the newspaper a lot. Listen to NPR. Pay close attention to the language used by really smart people. Read Ulysses. I don't consider my internal vocab list to be capacious by any means, but I did alright on the SAT verbal...just pay attention to a lot of "intellectual" media and be particularly cognizant of words that you don't know. If worst comes to worst, simply buy one of the verbal prep books that offers a word list, and memorize the ones that you don't already know. Good luck!

when reading/watching, have a dictionary with you. dont skip words you don't know just to finish ur homework or something.

I think reading challenging books extensively is the best way to build a vocabulary. Periodicals like NEWSWEEK and TIME, or the NY Times, are also good practice. Personally I've never had the patience the keep a dictionary at my side. I don't understand how y'all do it.

i use a computer dictionary that came with the merriam webster collegiate 11th edition
