SAT VS. ACT and my target scores

Ok, here's my question.

I have an ACT score of 28, and I plan to take this test two more times in time for early action and to have a target score of 32.

My SAT score is 1780 (610 CR, 580 M, 590 W) and I plan to take the test one more time before early action and my target score is 1900.

So...are my goals attainable if I begin my test studying next week?

In addition....does a good ACT score nullify a lesser SAT score?

And the big question: Is one test better than another in terms of strength and does the test differential really make a difference?

Thanks for your help.

While colleges view the SAT more highly (from what I’ve read on here), i say just go with the better score. I got a 32 on my ACT and a 1980 on my SAT, and I’m gonna only send in my ACT

Uh… A 28 is like a 1900 already, so screw your SAT score and just take the ACT. If you are going for a 32, that’s around a 2130-2160, which is far superior to a 1900. It depends a lot on your college but the chart estimation is fairly universal varying a bit depending on the college.

SAT isn’t that important-- all colleges take the ACT. But if you are still thinking about the SAT, there’s a 10x higher chance that you will get a 1900 than getting a 32.

bump it up!

bump it up!

Colleges generally require the SAT or ACT, and either or both should work. If one is clearly higher than the other, go with the higher one. By the looks of it, you’re better suited to the ACT. It may not hurt to re-take the SAT in addition to the ACT retakes that you’ve planned. It’ll be easier to improve from a 1780 to a 1900 to match your 28 than to improve from a 28 to a 32, imo.

thank you! bump it up…

bump it up!!!

bump it up !

So…are my goals attainable if I begin my test studying next week?
-this is a question only you can answer

In addition…does a good ACT score nullify a lesser SAT score?
-kinda. i would recommend not sending in the lesser SAT score if you have a significantly better ACT score

And the big question: Is one test better than another in terms of strength and does the test differential really make a difference?
-not a big difference, but many top colleges seem to prefer SAT scores but not to the degree that lesser SAT scores > better ACT scores. But on an equal scale, ie 2130 would be a bit better than the 32. It’s just that generally the ACT reading section is easier than the SAT and the ACT seems more of a test of what you learned in high school versus the SAT which measures how well you will do in your first year of college (not that i think it measures it well by any means. AP’s are prob the best measure)

oh and btw… i don’t really think you’ll get more replies since people have basically have said the same thing over and over again (and they all seem like good advice)… so you should stop ‘bumping it up’ haha;)
