Is it really necessary to take both the SAT and the ACT or is it better to take just one? Bc most of my friends are taking both and i decided just to put all my energy into studying for the SAT. and would either test look better than the other when applying for top schools?

in my opinion act is easy and just for hicks in the mountains, but then again I am from california. Well, it is easier to score high even though the material is harder and the pace is pretty slow.

Most schools can convert ACT scores, I've heard. They won't discriminate if you use ACT. Most western and northeastern schools use/prefer the SAT, if I remember correctly. If they give you the option of giving them the ACT, they won't discriminate for you using it, especially since some places might be very far from an SAT testing site, and the same with the ACT (but not as likely).
