SAT vs ACT

I am a rising Senior at the top ranked high school in Texas, and I have a little dilemma.

For applying ED to Duke for a possible chemistry major, I have an 800 SAT 1 Math ss, while a 620 CR/Writing ss. On my ACT I have a 33 math ss and a 33 CR / 31 Writing (35 science fyi). Which scores (or both) should I send? While my SAT shows my high proficiency for math, my ACT has a higher overall score.

Suggestions?

How about taking the SAT II for Chemistry? If you don’t want to do that, maybe sending in your ACT score would be better, mostly because it’s already got the science part covered.

I just took the sat 2 Chem in June, and I am expecting nothing less than a 750 (with the massive curve an 800 is easily attainable). I am just worried that colleges will look at my subpar cr and writing scores and not pay attention to the 800 math

I suppose that your CR/W scores are a bit low for higher ranked colleges. Your ACT score seems very good, so I think that sending the ACT would be better. Your math score is still really good either way.

Remember, for Duke yo either have to submit 2 SAT IIs w/ the SAT I or just ACT w/ Writing. If you submit SATs, you would have to take another subject test in addition to having the low SAT (below the average for Duke). So in this case, ACT clearly the best choice.

Well I took physics and math II in conjunction with Chem

When CR & M scores are so discrepent it is always better to send the ACT, since colleges only have to report the total score on their common data sets (you’re 620 CR score won’t pull their average score down, thus it won’t hurt you in admissions).
