What is the difference between the SAT Reasoning and the ACT with writing. Universities want either one..is it better to take one over the other??

Take practice tests from both (within the time constraints, of course) and see which one you do better on and are more comfortable with. Then, take that test for real (after some more studying and practice), and see how you do. If you do poorly, you could either: keep taking the same test, but maybe study more/differently or switch to the other test and start studying.

If you are a NMSF, take the SAT if you are interested in continuing that. If your school has everyone take a test (like mine did for the ACT) then take that. It is not better to take one over the other in terms of college preferences, because all (or the vast, vast majority) accept either and will view each equally.
